Childhood's edge
This series was made with children from my family and was based upon a reflection about reality and imagination, which both considerably affect the child’s psychology. The aim is the one second when they may forget the camera and give the most natural and somewhat disconnected expressions. The whole ambiguity of this work relies on that instability between reality and fiction, and on the reaction to photographic posing This unsteady aspect is also a vision of the universe of childhood that involves playful innocence and detachment, as much as a certain fatality or a real apprehension, even a sense of anxiety in front of the future, of nature, fearing human relationships, reality, and one's own image. Both children and grown-ups have only to cope and walk along that wobbly line.
